Nightlight: A Parody by the Harvard Lampoon

Belle Goose has just moved to Switchblade, Oregon to live with her father. As she gets to know her classmates, she is inexplicably drawn to the mysterious Edwart Mullen. After some research, Belle is convinced that Edwart is a vampire. Naturally, since she is a teenage girl, Belle is attracted to vampires and decides that her and Edwart should be together forever.

This book was pretty funny! It totally makes fun of the Twilight books and movies, so fans will get all of the little jabs. There were parts that verged on ridiculous (like Belle's insistence that everyone in the town, from the boys in her class to the mailman who rings her doorbell, have a crush on her), but that's what made the story funny. So many little one liners ("No one's written me a lullaby since Carter Burwell." "What would I do if Edwart ever left? It'd just be pages and pages with only the names of a month written on them." "I'm lonely. I really need to get a werewolf friend.") that will have you giggling!

TTFN by Lauren Myracle

Angela, Zoe, and Maddie are in eleventh grade now and everything is about to change. Angela's parents are moving her across the country to California, Maddie gets involved in drugs, and Zoe ends up dating Angela's crush. While the girls still deal with typical high school drama, there are many more mature topics as well.

Still told totally through instant messages, this story was pretty intriguing. I found it somewhat hard to believe that after Angela hopped on a Greyhound bus and went back to Atlanta, her parents would let her stay, but I liked that Maddie got busted for her drug use since it showed that there ARE consequences for your actions! The last book in the trilogy is L8R G8R, and I'll be reading it as soon as I can get my hands on it!

TTYL by Lauren Myracle

Angela, Zoe, and Maddie are three best friends starting tenth grade. As they deal with boy drama, mean girls, and school, they share their experiences through instant messaging.

This was actually kind of interesting. Since all of the text in the book is instant messages between the characters, it made for a quick read. I was a little disturbed by the relationship Zoe had with one of her teachers, but the rest of the events were very believable.

The Hollow by Jessica Verday

Abbey's best friend, Kristen, has recently died. At first, Abbey doesn't believe that Kristen is really gone because they don't find her body, but when they discover it in the Crane River a little ways down from the Sleepy Hollow Bridge, Abbey is forced to accept the loss. She meets a mysterious and beautiful boy named Caspian and quickly begins having feelings for him. While she struggles to cope with the death of her best friend, she learns that Kristen was keeping secrets from her. Then she learns a secret about Caspian, and begins to question her very sanity.

I have lukewarm feelings about this book. While there was a pretty neat twist at the end, there were NO clues that would lead you to the conclusion. The relationship between Abbey and Caspian, while said to be love, reads more like obsession. Her best friend's recent disappearance/death spend so much time on the backburner that it doesn't seem very realistic. There are so many unanswered questions, but hopefully the second book in the series, The Haunted, will answer some of them AND be a bit faster paced. It's slated to be released August 31, 2010.

Your Coffin or Mine? by Kimberly Raye

For Lil Marchette, the owner of the premier dating service for vampires, it's going to take more than matching up vamps to pay the bills. Dare she add actual humans to the mix? Eager to diversify, she signs up for a popular dating show to pitch her expertise to the perfect target audience. Of course Lil is trying to forget the one man she'd love to sink her own teeth into, Ty Bonner. Problem is, she's sensing he's in deep trouble. The race is on as Lil struggles to save Ty, and herself, before all hell breaks loose.

The lovable Lil strikes again! Be sure to look for the 4th book in this series, Just One Bite!

Dead and Dateless by Kimberly Raye

Sassy vampire Lil Marchette, is the owner of Dead End Dating. After only three months, business is booming, and she can finally pay her bills. But when one of her clients turns up dead (as in never coming back), Lil is named as the prime suspect. Sure, she’s a vampire, but hacking somebody to pieces is so out of the question.
To make matters worse, Lil must also deal with a pack of werewolves who demand that she find each one a tall, dark, and handsome mate before the next full moon. Although the tempting Ty Bonner is never far from her midnight fantasies, Lil has no time for such thoughts. She must prove her innocence and focus on pairing off the dead and the furry.

The second book is just as fun and fast paced as the first!

Dead End Dating by Kimberly Raye

A vivacious vampire with a flair for accessorizing, Lil Marchette is unlike most of her kind. She prefers shades of pink to dismal black, and she’s a hopeless romantic. In need of a steady paycheck to support a compulsive cosmetics habit, Lil starts Dead End Dating (DED), a matchmaking service that helps singles like herself find eternity mates. Just as her business takes off, Lil meets gorgeous bounty hunter Ty Bonner, who's chasing a serial killer. Between her clients and helping Ty solve his murder mystery, Lil has no time for silly romantic entanglements . . . even if Ty is all that and a Bloody Mary chaser!

A super fun series with a lovable heroine. Great beach reads!
