I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

Constantly moving from place to place, always assuming a new identity, John Smith (at least that's what he's called for now) has lead a life on the run. With his guardian, Henri, keeping an ever-watchful eye on the news, he has to be ready to move at the first sign of trouble. When he feels the new scar form around his ankle, the one signifying that the third of the nine children from his planet has been killed, he knows it is time to go. Not only will the evil Mogadorians still be searching for him, this time they will be able to kill him because he is Number Four. When they settle in the little town of Paradise, Ohio, John finds many reasons not to leave. He makes his first real friend. He's falling in love with a girl who just may love him back. But the Mogadorians are moving ever closer and the fate of his planet and ours hangs in the balance.

While the writing style was a little dry, the story was compelling and the action was very suspenseful. Look for the sequel, The Power of Six, due out in August. There's also a movie based on the book due out on February 18.
