Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Ethan Wate is determined to get out of Gatlin, a small South Carolina town with no secrets because practically all of its residents were born there, will live out their lives there, and die there. The summer before his sophomore year of high school, he begins having strange dreams. In them, he's trying to desperately hold on to a girl, but each time loses her. When school starts, all the buzz is about a new girl in school, Lena Duchannes. Not only is she an outsider, but she's living at the old Ravenwood Manor, a house that's rumored to be haunted. When Ethan finally meets Lena, he realizes that this is the girl from his dreams. Then he discovers that she has been dreaming about him, too. As the mysteries surrounding their connection begin to pile up, they have to race against the deadline of her sixteenth birthday before they lose each other forever.

With its Southern charm and mystery after mystery unraveling each chapter, this haunting story will stay with you long after you've read the last page. All I can say is there BETTER be a sequel!

Firespell by Chloe Neill

When Lily’s parents decided to send her away to a fancy boarding school in Chicago, she was shocked. St. Sophia's is full of spoiled trust fund babies who love nothing more than pointing out the new girl's flaws. The only thing keeping her sane is her roommate, Scout, but she keeps disappearing late at night and won’t tell Lily where she’s been. Lily knows there's something strange going on at her new school, and she's determined to get to the bottom of it. Lily will soon find that it's not just her school, but also her own parents, that may be keeping secrets.

This is a fabulous book! I couldn't stop reading. Can't wait for the next one!

Gone by Lisa McMann

With her destiny as a dreamcatcher revealed, Janie is struggling with her decision: should she continue to fall into dreams and eventually become crippled and blind or isolate herself from all human contact? Her decision is further complicated as she keeps falling into Cabel's nightmares about Janie's fate. Then Janie's father, whom she has never met, is placed in the ICU in a coma. As Janie begins to unravel her father's past, she realizes that the consequences of her decision are more dire than she initially believed.

The final book in the Wake trilogy, this book was fantastic! As sad as I am that there won't be any more books in this series, this one tied up all of the loose ends and was a very satisfying finale.

Freefall by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams

Will Burrows, his best friend Chester and their companions have fallen into the Pore, a giant chasm deep in the Earth’s crust that it believed to lead to nothing but death. As if that wasn't bad enough, Will and his friends have to stop the spread of a killer virus, learn how to survive in a strange new environment and they still haven't found Will's dad!

The third book in the series does not disappoint. Enthralling from beginning to end, and again a huge cliffhanger. The fourth book Closer comes out in May!

Deeper by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams

Boy archaeologist Will Burrows has gone off in search of his missing father. What he discovers is a sinister subterranean world. Wandering the dark, hot bowels of Earth with his best friend Chester, Will stumbles across a dastardly plan to exterminate all "Topsoilers" by unleashing a lethal plague. How can Will save the planet from annihilation when his own life is at risk?

The second book in this series is fast moving and action packed. It will leave you on the edge of your seat!

Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr

Aislinn is adjusting to her life as the Summer Queen. She has reached an alliance with Keenan, the Summer King, that allows for them to be civil with each other while she continues her pre-immortal relationship with Seth. As summer nears, Aislinn finds herself inexplicably drawn to Keenan. She hates what this attraction is doing to Seth. This also puts a strain on Summer's relationship with the Winter Court, as Keenan is involved with Donia, the Winter Queen. While Aislinn fights to keep Seth and do what's best for her Summer Fey, Seth decides to take matters into his own hands. Unfortunately, he gets himself tangled up with the High Court and must depend on the Dark Court to help him out, which may cause him to lose Aislinn forever.

With all of the darkness and magic of the first, this sequel to Wicked Lovely will have you yearning for another book about Aislinn, Seth, and Keenan. Look for Radiant Shadows, another Faerie book by Melissa Marr, coming out on April 20, 2010!

Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr

Leslie is desperately fighting for control in her life. Her mother is gone, her father spends the rent money on alcohol and gambling, and her brother and his creepy druggie friends are constantly making her uncomfortable in her own house. She decides to get a tattoo and is inexplicably drawn to one of wings with a set of eyes. Rabbit, the tattoo artist, isn't sure that Leslie should have that particular tattoo, but her insistence persuades Rabbit to permanently ink it to her skin. What Leslie doesn't know is that her tattoo will link her to the Faerie Dark Court, feeding the Dark Fey with her fear and anger and binding her to the Dark King, Irial. Irial is surprised by the connection he feels to Leslie, and even more surprised when his feelings begin turning into love...

Another great story by Marr that creates a world so believable, you'll be sucked right in! This book also includes many of the characters from Wicked Lovely, though it is not technically a 'sequel.'

The Summoning by Kelley Armstrong

Fifteen year old Chloe Saunders has a meltdown at school, fending off teachers as she swears she saw a ghost. This episode lands her in the Lyle House, a group home for disturbed teens. Chloe is immediately diagnosed as schizophrenic, but with some encouragement from her housemates, she begins to believe in her powers. With some prodding, she researches necromancy and learns more about her abilities. When she summons some spirits to find some answers about strange occurrences at the Lyle House, she is immersed in the world of supernaturals. It turns out that the other teens in the Lyle House also have supernatural talents and the fact that they have all been herded together is not mere coincidence...

Although this story took quite a while for me to get into (200 pages in, I still had no idea what was going on!), the payoff in the end was definitely worth it! Hopefully, the second book in the series will pick up right where this one left off.

Wednesday

Tunnels by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams

Will Burrows lives in the suburbs of London with his rather strange and dysfunctional family. His mother is planted in front of the television every waking hour, his younger sister takes responsibility over such parental chores as cooking, shopping and paying bills and his spacey father lives for archaeological digs, dreaming about the big discovery that will make him famous. Will is definitely an individual, but follows his father’s interests in archeology. Lately Will has been spending more time with a Chester a friend from school. Suddenly, Will's father disappears and the only lead Will has is his father's journal describing strange sunglass wearing men wandering the city. Then he and Chester uncover the biggest clue of all, the tunnel hidden behind the bookcase in the cellar. What Will and Chester discover explodes their minds with the unimaginable. Thrown into an adventurous quest, the boys run for their lives as they uncover deeply buried secrets.

Mystery and action combine for a captivating read!

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson is a troubled 12 year old. He's been diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD, been enrolled in a different school every year (he keeps getting expelled), and he swears that his algebra teacher is evil. When a field trip goes awry, Percy faces off against his algebra teacher with a pen that turns into a sword and with one swipe, she disintegrates before his eyes. Percy is dumbfounded, particularly when no one seems to remember her. Then when Percy's mother is killed in front of him by a Minotaur, his best friend, Grover, immediately takes him to Camp Half-Blood where Percy discovers that he is a demigod. Poseidon claims Percy as his son, which creates even more problems for Percy. You see, Zeus's lightning bolt has gone missing and it's believed that Poseidon was behind the theft. It's up to Percy, along with Grover (who happens to be a satyr) and Annabeth, a daughter of Athena, to recover the stolen lightning and return it to Zeus before a war breaks out on Mount Olympus.

With a fabulous mix of present day, Greek mythology, adventure, and loaded with humor, this book was excellent! I'm excited to see if the movie version that's coming out in a few weeks can live up to this story.

Dark Visions, Volume III: The Passion

Kaitlyn is done being a victim. In order to beat Dr.Z she decides to take the offensive. Of course her solo mission doesn't last long, because her friends are never far behind. Unfortunately, she has more to worry about than just bringing down The Institute. Kaitlyn's slowly realizing there might be room for more than one guy in her heart, or maybe she just needs to decide which one she loves more...

The last book in this trilogy was action packed!

Dark Visions, Volume II: The Possessed

Kaitlyn and her friends have learned the dark secrets of the The Institute. The five of them are closer than ever and must rely on each other to defeat their enemies. They head north, looking for shelter, not daring to even contact their parents. They’re on their own when Kaitlyn discovers Gabriel’s been hiding something from the group. As they work to out run the evil Mr.Z, Kaitlyn must figure out how to help Gabriel.

I was so glad this trilogy comes all in one book because I couldn't stop reading!

Dark Visions, Volume I: The Strange Power

Kaitlyn is an artist. She draws pictures of things that are going to happen in the future. Everything she draws comes true, but she can’t figure out what she’s drawn until it’s too late. Kait is happy when a scientist who is studying psychic abilities invites her to come to California and join his school of similarly talented individuals. She's tired of being the freak at her school. At The Institute she meets other psychics her age, and she's thrilled to be accepted. But something isn't right at The Institute and it's up to Kaitlyn and her new friends to save themselves.

The first book in the Dark Visions trilogy is full of mystery and romance! Loved it!
