Divergent by Veronica Roth

Beatrice Prior has lived her life putting others before herself. After all, she's part of the Abnegation factor, the factor of service and selflessness. She has always admired the Dauntless, though, and their fearlessness and freedom. As she turns 16, she knows that the Choosing Ceremony is coming, and along with it, the aptitude test that will help her decide which faction she should choose: Abnegation, Dauntless, Erudite, Amity, or Candor. But Choosing is not as simple as it should be for Beatrice. Should she stay with Abnegation and her family or forever lose them while she searches for herself in Dauntless? And then there is the frightening result of her aptitude test-Beatrice is Divergent. She has an aptitude for several factions, which is viewed as dangerous by all of the factions.

I have to say, it was VERY hard to do a write-up of this book without giving too much away. All of the above happens in the first few chapters and the way the story unrolls after that is just AMAZING!!! It's been a long time since I've read a book that I just couldn't put down, and this finally gave me that again. Tris's transformation and struggle are so real. I love her evolving relationship with Four. Something about it takes me back to older books I've read that just get inside of me and effect me. I've been waiting too long for a new book/series/author to give that to me! This book quickly rose to become one of my favorites (and that is not a term that I throw around lightly when it comes to books!) Do yourself a favor and just READ IT!!!

Pure by Julianna Baggott

Partridge lives in the Dome. His life is perfectly structured; every minute of every day dictated. He doesn't know much about life outside of the Dome, except that the beings that exist there are wretches, fused with the things around them when the detonations occurred. Partridge believes that his mother is out there, among the wretches, and decides to escape the Dome.
Pressia is one of the wretches. One of her hands is fused to the doll's head that she was holding when the detonations happened. As her 16th birthday approaches, she knows that she must turn herself in to either become part of the militia or a live target for them to use for practice.
Both on the run, their paths cross, and the future will be forever changed.

While I enjoyed this book, I found it somewhat predictable. It was definitely a different kind of story than I typically read; lots of war-like situations, very disturbing imagery of a world after nuclear detonations. The storyline was exciting, though, so it kept me reading. Waiting for Fuse to come later this month.

Wake by Amanda Hocking

Gemma is beautiful, kind, and falling in love with the boy next door. Penn, Lexi, and Thea are new in town. They are gorgeous, magnetic and fearless. Everyone is drawn to them. Gemma becomes suspicious when they take an interest in her. One night with these girls may change her life forever.

I wasn't sure if I would like this series so I put it off for a little while. I'm currently reading the second book Lullaby. So yeah, I like it.

The Rise of Nine by Pittacus Lore

The Lorien Garde are finally banding together. On their separate trips, both Four and Six find more Garde members, and bring them together to face their enemy. Setrakus Ra, the leader of the Mogadorians, has come to Earth. Are the Garde reasy to fight him?

I am LOVING this series. I can't wait for the next one!

Endlessly by Kiersten White

Evie is enjoying her new found freedom as a normal high school student. Her love for Lend is only growing stronger, and just when everything is going her way, there's a small issue of saving all of the paranormals.

The final book in the trilogy does not disappoint. I really enjoyed reading the end of Evie's story!

The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore

Number 7 is living in an orphanage in Spain with a Cepan who no longer believes in their mission.  She's miserable, has only one friend, and is obsessed with following a boy named John Smith on the internet. Number 7 is convinced he's one of the Garde. Can she convince her Cepan to come with her to find the others? Will the Mogs find her before she can leave?

I loved the second book in this series! I really like how this one focused on a different member of the Garde. I am already reading the third book, The Rise of Nine!

Son by Lois Lowry

Claire is a Birthmother in the Community. After her Product has to be cut from her body, Claire is sent to a new job and forgotten. But Claire can not forget the son she produced. She was supposed to forget about him, but it was impossible. Her feelings for her Product will lead Claire on an incredible adventure, and a life she never imagined.

This book was AMAZING! If you've read The Giver, you have to read this. If you haven't read The Giver, Gathering Blue or Messenger you need to read them all! This book collides with The Giver, and uses familiar and new characters. Lois Lowry beautifully illustrates the power of a mother's love.

Tuesday

Hollowmen (The Hollows #2) by Amanda Hocking

After six months in the quarantine, Remy finds out things are much worse than she feared. Her plans to escape come with a heavy cost, and she realizes that zombies aren't the worst of her problems.

Ok, I like Remy. She kicks ass and takes names. However, this book makes her seem like a selfish slut.     The main characters in the first book are hardly heard from, there are many unanswered questions, and just randomness.  I really feel like this needed to be a longer book.  I'm assuming that Ms. Hocking will be continuing these as a series. If not, don't read them, it will drive you batty! I don't want to give too much away, but I will say there are some graphic parts in this one, and it's definitely rated R!

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn't drink or swear, and she has the appropriate amount of cardigans in her closet.  Abby believes she has put enough distance between her new life and the darkness of her past. When she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University's resident ladies man.  Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby needs, and wants to avoid. Abby has no idea that Travis is not what he appears to be, and Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

Ok, I completely stumbled upon this book and I fell IN LOVE with these characters! I want a Travis! This book kept me riveted, and I stayed up all night reading because I couldn't get enough!

Crossed by Ally Condie

Cassia journeys to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky, only to find him gone. Now she must follow the clues he left behind to find him. Cassia's quest leads her to question much of what she believes, even as she finds glimmers of hope for a different life across the border. Nothing is as expected on the edge of Society, where crosses and double crosses make the path more twisted than ever.

The second book in this series is action packed, and just as good as the first!  Cassia, Ky and Xander are on their was to independence fro the Society, but must learn to depend on each other.  I'm reading the third book Reached right now!

Barley Breathing by Rebecca Donovan

Emma's struggles with an abusive home life came to a horrible end. Now everyone in Weslyn know's Emma's secret, but Carol can't hurt her anymore. Emma and Evan are still haunted by the horror of that night, and must face the repurcussions of their choices. As Emma reconnects with her estranged mother, she discovers there is still a lot to learn about her past, and how it will affect her future.

I LOVED this book! I stumbled upon the first one accidentally, and couldn't wait to read this one. With the way this ended, I may EXPLODE if I don't get to read Out of Breath soon!!
