Matched by Ally Condie

Cassia relies on the Society for everything. Using data that they constantly collect, they dictate how she dresses, what she eats, when she gets leisure time and what is acceptable to do during it, what her job will be, even when she will die. They also Match her to the person who will, statistically, allow her to have the happiest marriage and the healthiest children. At her Match Banquet, she is surprised to learn that her Match is not a stranger from another province, but Xander, a boy who has been her best friend for years. When she gets home and looks at her Match card, the face on the screen is not Xander but Ky, an Aberration who lives in her province and will never be Matched because of his status. Cassia is told that it was a computer glitch, but she begins to gravitate towards Ky, and as they begin to spend more time together, she begins to question everything she thought she knew about the Society.

I'll be perfectly honest and say that as I read the beginning of this book, I felt claustrophobic. That's how real this Society feels. I wanted to break free from it and actually breathed a little easier when Cassia began to feel that way as well. With the way this book ended, I am anxiously waiting for book 2 in the series,Crossed, which is set to release on November 1, 2011.
