Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Nora Grey has a problem, and his name is Patch. He's everywhere, and she's beginning to think there's a reason he's following her. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment. His mysterious past leaves her with a million questions, and she can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. In the end, Nora will have to decide if love is worth giving up her life for.

This book was sensational! The plot line is unique and not at all what I expected. Although the level of suspense is sometimes frustrating, it's worth it in the end!
The sequal Crescendo comes out this year!

City of Glass by Cassandra Clare

Valentine has possession of two of the three Mortal Instruments which will allow him to control the angel Raziel and essentially give him the power to rule over all Shadowhunters. Clary is coming to terms with her newfound power for creating runes, Simon is adjusting to life as a daywalker, and Jace is just as stubborn and sarcastic as ever! With little time left to stop Valentine, Jace takes off on his own to stop him from acquiring the third Mortal Instrument. Meanwhile, Clary is fighting with the Clave, trying to unite the Shadowhunters with the Downworlders in order to stop Valentine. The Shadowhunters' freedom comes down to this moment if they have the strength and courage to embrace it.

With so many questions answered, this book helps make The Mortal Instruments my absolute favorite series! Look for the fourth book in the series, City of Fallen Angels, in March 2011. In the meantime, check out Clare's Infernal Devices series, starting with A Clockwork Angel coming out in August 2010.

City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare

Clary's life has changed immensely since she discovered the world of Shadowhunters. Between her mother being in a magically induced coma, her new relationship with Simon, and complications with Jace, Clary has a lot on her plate. When Downworlder children start getting murdered and the second Mortal Instrument goes missing, the Shadowhunters believe that Valentine, an extremist Shadowhunter, is behind it. Due to his relationship with Valentine, this drags Jace into the investigation, but which side is he really on?

With all of the action, humor, and longing of the first, this sequel definitely lives up to its predecessor!

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

While Clary and her friend Simon are at a club, she witnesses three teenagers murder another teen. Stranger than the odd tattoos that cover their skin or the weapons that they use is the fact that the body disappears into thin air. Stranger still is the fact that no one can see them except for her. Clary is immediately taken into the world of the Shadowhunters, part human/part angels who rid the Earth of demons. When Clary returns home, she finds that her mother has been taken by demons. Clary must then rely on the Shadowhunters, in particular the handsome but snarky Jace, to help her uncover the mysteries of her past so that she can save her mother.

With many characters and subplots, this story is extremely action packed. Between battles, there are friendships and potential love connections being made. One of my new favorites!

Despite her fierce loyalty to Damen, Ever is drawn to Jude, a green-eyed golden boy with magical talents and a mysterious past. She's always believed Damen to be her soul mate, yet her connection with Jude grows stronger and tests her love like never before.

I'm not sure if this book annoyed me because of the love triangle or the general plot line. Either way, it was not my favorite. However, I never give up on a series!

Blue Moon by Alyson Noel

Desperate to save him, Ever travels to the mystical dimension of Summerland. With the approaching blue moon heralding her only window for travel, Ever is forced to decide between turning back the clock and saving her family or staying in the present and saving Damen.

Loved the second book in this series just as much as the first. Very action packed.

Pretty in Plaid by Jen Lancaster

Pretty in Plaid: A Life, a Witch, and a Wardrobe, or, the Wonder Years Before the Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smart-Ass Phase. Lancaster illustrates growing up in Cow Town, Indiana, to her life as a sorority girl during her eleven years of college, to her first job post-college. Like her previous books, Pretty in Plaid is written as a series of essays, all of which are connected by the theme of clothing. From her Girl Scout uniform, to her first job interview suit, Jen shows us how clothes shaped the way she views the world.

Jen Lancaster definitely has a unique voice that’s very witty, and you won't want to put this one down!

Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster

Bitter is the New Black: Confessions of a Condescending, Egomanical, Self-Centered, Smartass, or Why You Should Never Carry a Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office.
This is the story of how a haughty former sorority gal went from having a household income of almost a quarter-million dollars to being evicted from a ghetto apartment in less than two years. It's a modern Greek tragedy, a story in which "the central character, called a tragic protagonist or hero, suffers some serious misfortune which is not accidental and therefore meaningless, but is significant in that the misfortune is logically connected." In other words? The bitch had it coming.

You'll laugh so loud it will scare your animals and your husband will think you may be hyperventilating. True Story.

Bright Lights, Big Ass by Jen Lancaster

Bright Lights, Big Ass: A Self-Indulgent, Surly Ex-Sorority Girl's Guide to Why it Often Sucks in the City, or Who Are All These Idiots and Why Do They Live Next Door to Me?
A collection of essays that shine a bright light on the big city to reveal the escapades of the outrageously unglamorous. Jen Lancaster hates to burst your happy little bubble, but life in the big city isn't all it's cracked up to be. Contrary to what you see on TV and in the movies, most urbanites aren't party-hopping in slinky dresses and strappy stilettos. But lucky for us, Lancaster knows how to make the life of the lower crust mercilessly funny and infinitely entertaining. Lancaster explores how silly, strange, and not so fabulous real city living can be.

If you want a good laugh, Jen Lancaster delivers!

Such a Pretty Fat by Jen Lancaster

Such a Pretty Fat: One Narcissist's Quest to Discover If Her Life Makes Her Ass Look Big; Or, Why Pie Is Not the Answer is an absolutely hilarious memoir! Tired of books where the self-loathing heroine is teased to the point where she starves herself in hopes of a fabulous new life? Do you hate the message that we women can't possibly be happy until we fit into our skinny jeans? Well, Jen Lancaster agrees. She doesn't find stories like this uplifting; they make her want to hug these women and explain to them that until they figure out their insides, their outsides don't matter.

Unfortunately, being overweight isn't simply a societal issue that can be fixed with a dose of positive self-esteem. It's a health matter, so on the eve of Jen's 40th birthday she decides to make changes so she doesn't, you know, die. Because what good is finally being able to afford a pedicure if she loses a foot to adult onset diabetes?

This book will have you in hysterics. A fun and witty read!

When she is finally invited to a party that may help her catch the predator, she realizes that she may be in over her head.

As suspenseful as the first, this book is a real page-turner. Watch for the third book in the series, Gone, coming in March 2010.

Wake by Lisa McMann

Janie has a problem. Whenever people around her fall asleep, she is sucked into their dreams. At first it's annoying. Cabe is the only person she's ever told about her dreamcatching but when she realizes that it's his nightmare that she was pulled into, Janie has to work to decide what to do with her abilities.

A fast-paced read, this book will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next!

An incredible story that provides a different perspective of the Holocaust. Haunting.

The Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause

Zoe’s mother is dying of cancer. Her father is always at the hospital and, on the few occasions when he is home, too encompassed by his own grief to help her deal with her own. Then she meets Simon. When Zoe discovers that the reason Simon is able to empathize is because he lost his own mother, Zoe feels even more drawn to him. Though the characters could be interesting and the story line has potential, this book reads like a bad soap opera.

Peeps by Scott Westerfield

Luckily, he is just a carrier and the parasite doesn’t affect him the way it does the other people who are parasite positive, or ‘peeps.’ Cal is able to use some of his superhuman abilities to track down other peeps for the Night Watch, an underground group of vampire hunters. These peeps include his ex-girlfriends whom he has accidently infected with the parasite. As he tracks his progenitor, Morgan, he comes to the realization that things are not what he has been led to believe and that the Night Watch has been hiding some big truths from him.

With the combination of mystery, suspense, and science (mini biology lessons between chapters), this book is fantastic!

Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

Nick is playing a gig with his ‘queercore’ band when he spots his ex, Tris, in the audience. Nick is still incredibly hung up on Tris and after his band is done performing, he notices her walking toward him with her new boyfriend. Nick grabs the girl next to him, Norah, and asks her if she’ll be his girlfriend for the next five minutes. She responds by kissing Nick. It turns out she knows Tris, too, and is also trying to avoid her. After some encouragement from Nick’s gay bandmates, he and Norah take off together for a night out. Along the way, they run into Norah’s ex, Tris (again!), and transvestite stripping nuns. They begin to realize that there is a real attraction between the two of them, but must decide if they are ready to move forward and leave their pasts behind.

The dual authorship lends very distinct voices to each character. A hilarious read!

A great story of self discovery and being true to oneself.
